Financial education for the next generation
We're working with the Personal Finance Education Group to help primary and secondary schools teach personal finance.
The Personal Finance Education Group (pfeg) supports school teachers and educational planners in teaching school children about personal finance - a crucial skill for school leavers in the current financial climate.
As Project Manager I worked closely with Anna Dening and Philippa Cowley Thwaites at pfeg to plan and manage the development of their new site on RationalMedia. The main aims were to make their collection of teaching resources more readily accessible and searchable, simplify the site structure and to bring the design in line with their vibrant new branding. The result is a site which is much more user-friendly and has a really clean and fresh look.
Another challenge was to design a search for the resources which would allow a complicated set of search options - e.g. if you're in England you can search for key stages, but if you're in Scotland you can only search for year groups - while making it simple and intuitive for the user. Inevitably there were also curriculum and policy changes to accommodate along the way.
This a very satisfying project to work on, and I really enjoyed it - not least because Anna and Philippa are such a pleasure to work with. I'm especially pleased that everything went so smoothly, as I'm now leaving Torchbox for a little while... I'm expecting a baby on the 10th of November, which no doubt will bring a whole new load of very different challenges!
